Red Sulfur and the Greatest Elixir – continued

  • By the Grace of Allah, we had a seamless second lesson in ‘Abdullah bin Abu Bakr al-Aydarus’ Red Sulfur (may Allah have mercy upon him).

Habib Umar (Allah preserve him) mentioned that we would study texts from the Imams of the Ba’Alawi Tradition. In preparation for this lesson, we were struck by how very steeped in this tradition the lives of the scholars here are.

After last week’s lesson, we visited the author, al-Aydarus (Allah have mercy upon him), Monday morning and the local scholars recited a mawlid at his grave.

As Habib Umar left the event, we took permission to begin translating the text for this lesson, hoping that this permission would be enveloped by the blessing of having visited the author that morning. And on the morning of (or the day before) the second lesson, in preparation for the class, we prayed at our neighborhood mosque which is the mosque of the uncle of the author, Habib Hasan bin Abdur-Rahman as-Saqqaf (may Allah have mercy on them).

So we ask Allah, just as He has allowed us to visit them and pray in their mosques, that He grant us to follow their footsteps in this lesson and in all good.

And tawfiq (success) is from Allah,

    AbdulKarim

  • Assalaamu `Alaikum wa Rahmatullah,

Perhaps this is not the best place to ask, but will there continue to be Summer Dowra programs in the coming years?

This is a fine place to ask. The Dowra always starts on July 1st. You can follow the Dowra website and we will post an announcement here when registration opens, in sha Allah.

    As-Salaam Alaykum
Jizakum Allah Khayr for sharing these blessed texts. It seems as if we were let in on a secret. I haven’t been able to sit in on too many of these blessed lessons, due to technical difficulties, but what I have been able to observe has really transformed (at least when I’m making dhikr) my perspective of my Muslim brothers and sisters. While in Medina last weekend, I felt that everyone present was elected to be in a very noble and exalted gatering of souls. Gave me a sence of elevated respect or consideration for my fellow Muslim. Inshallah, I can sustain such a perspective for all who’se affair is that of submission to Allah Aza wa Jal.

May Allah grant us and you tawfiq, and accept.

    Jazakallah Khair

  • Nice. I have to listen to this a few more times!
